Being around music most of his life, Stan got into the entertainment scene at the age of 16, initially as a mobile DJ operator providing his services at clubs and private events – in other words, an original “wedding” DJ!! In the 60’s, Stan’s tastes were very much in soul and tamla but as time progressed and demand for popular music entertainers increased, his services provided for whatever tastes were in demand – pop, rock, soul, tamla, and reggae. In the late 70’s, demand for Dj’s in private factories and department stores was on the increase and Stan went down to Roger Squires Studios in London to learn more in the art of radio presentation – even if he failed miserably to pronounce Alexander Solzhenitsyn in a mock radio broadcast!!
1980 saw a move to the Middle East to work in his engineering profession and this opened up an opportunity for Stan to exercise his broadcasting skills on QBS Radio (Qatar) where he presented both prime breakfast and drive time shows over a 5 year period. A move to Bahrain mid 80’s saw Stan join the Radio Bahrain team where again, he presented prime time shows over a 10 year period.
Stan’s involvement in music was extended to promoting artists and as a partner in a Bahrain restaurant allowed him to promote shows through the contacts he had made over a period of time – this was a labour of love as he was able to meet and enjoy the artists including Midge Ure, Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Average White Band, Nine Below Zero, Dr Feelgood, Andy Fairweatherlow, Christians, Denny Laine, Osibisa, Deborah Bonham, Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers) and more. Along with his wife Grace, they have followed and attended concerts of many of the greats of 60’s and 70’s artists – rock cruises being one of their particular passions in life!
Stan has joined the team at Expat Radio presenting a weekend 3 hour Expat Gold show of rock, pop and soul classics from the 60’s and 70’s. Shout Outs are welcomed so if anyone has a particular liking from that era that they’d like to hear, drop Stan a line at email@example.com. The show goes out on Saturdays at 0800 CET and repeated again on Sundays 12 noon CET.
